Dr. Bruce E. Hogan, L.Sci., D.D., F.E.T.C.

Supt Bruce E. Hogan“Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.” - I Timothy 5:17.

Dr. Hogan is the Senior Pastor of Brookside Ministries Church of God In Christ, previously Rimson Memorial established by Bishop William Rimson; currently Administrative Assistant to Bishop Henderson Wheeler; Superintendent of the Southern District of West Virginia; Jurisdictional Secretary for the COGIC and Pastor’s and Elder’s Council Chairman, Greater West Virginia Jurisdiction; Partnership of African American Churches charter member and board chairman, and Regional Director for National Church Residences. He is married to the lovely Evangelist Missionary, Mary ShirlLynn Hogan, with two precious daughters, Kirsten Majesty, and Kateira Kristine. Also they have adopted into their family Jennifer Dyess, Orange Dyess, Greg Mason, and Corey Richards. With a love for God, family, the church, and lost souls, his vision of ministry is one to rebuild the walls as Nehemiah did. “I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you?” Pastor Hogan sees this time, not as a time for compromises, but a time of spiritual restoration, renewal, and revival. In 2014 Dr. Hogan was recognized as the one of 100 most influential pastors in the Church of God in Christ.

As a distinguished churchman, loving father, devoted husband, faithful under-shepherd of the flock of Christ, in recognition of these ongoing commitments to the cause and service of the Faith, the Eastern Theological consortium Faculty of Arts and Sciences of Christ Theological Seminary was pleased to confer on Elder Bruce E. Hogan, the signal honor and degree Doctor of Divinity, honoris causa, on March 28, 2006. A 1973 graduate of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, Dayton, Ohio, Dr. Hogan matriculated at Morehouse College, Atlanta, Georgia, and West Virginia Institute of Technology, majoring in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. For several years beginning in 1977 he taught bible study at the St. John Baptist Church, Morris Drive, in Montgomery, WV under the leadership of the late Pastor John Watkins. In 1978, he was licensed as a Minister by Bethlehem Baptist Church, Chesapeake, WV under the pastorate of Rev. Daniel Rispress. In 1984, he received his ministerial license in the Church of God in Christ, Inc., (COGIC) and was ordained to the office of Elder in the Church in 1986 by the late Bishop William Rimson. During this time also he worked with Elder James A. Austin and the Rev. Jack Williams in the Matthew 25:36 Ministry, ministering in the prisons and to the families of those in prison. From 1989 to 1995, Pastor Hogan served as President Young People’s Department (YPWW), Second West Virginia Jurisdiction COGIC, Inc , and in 1991 was appointed Pastor of Rimson Memorial COGIC, in Charleston, WV., both appointments being made by the late Bishop St. Clair Y. Burnette. In 1995, Bishop Burnett also appointed Elder Hogan to the position of the Jurisdictional Secretary. Under the leadership of the late Bishop Frank J. Ellis, Elder Hogan was appointed Superintendent of the Southern District of the West Virginia Jurisdiction COGIC, and in 2005, he was appointed as a Jurisdictional Trustee, Greater West Virginia Jurisdictional COGIC, Inc.

Elder Hogan, also a housing professional, has worked as a Senior Housing Manager for West Virginia Housing Development Fund, and obtained certifications as a Fair Housing Trainer, Low Income Housing Tax Credit Professional, Housing Specialist, Housing Manager, Public Housing Manager, Housing Quality Inspector, Certified Occupancy Specialist and Assisted Housing Manager and a licensed Realtor in the State of West Virginia. From 1990 to 1991 he was the Vice President, Public Housing, American Shelter Management Co., Kokomo, Indiana. From 1991 to February 1997 he served as Director of Housing, Charleston Housing Authority in Charleston, West Virginia. Elder Hogan now serves as Regional Director, National Church Residences, (New Jersey, Ohio, West Virginia, and previously, Tennessee, Maryland, Arkansas, and Puerto Rico).

Elder Hogan in the past held the offices of president Charleston Area Community Choir; President, Youth on the Move for Christ –WV Institute of Technology chapter; and is now charter member and chairman of the board of the Partnership of African American Churches. He has participated in Mission trips to Zimbabwe, Africa and India. Elder Hogan is past chairman of the board of Team Agape, Inc. providing support services and employment assistance for those dealing with the issues of reentry into society.

Elder Hogan has performed numerous leadership seminars, organized such seminars, was the organizer of jurisdictional crusade when Bishop Gilbert E. Patterson, International Prelate of the COGIC was the guest. Over the years he has used his administrative skills to enhance the lives of many by introducing them to other venues of life.
